Product Description

Video and lesson investigations on the topic of persistence of vision . Key concepts include:

  • Our eyes are fooled if a color card is spun quickly.
  • We cannot distinguish the individual colors. What is seen is a combination of all the component colors on the card.
  • The primary colors of light are red, green and blue (unlike the primary colors of pigments which are red, yellow and blue).
  • Their complements are cyan, magenta and yellow.
  • When a color wheel of red, green and blue is spun very rapidly, white light results.
  • Spinning combinations of two colors will give a third color that is the combination of those two colors.
  • The colors do not actually mix.
  • At a certain speed (faster than 12 images a second) the brain cannot see each image, or color, separately.
  • Instead they merge together.
  • This process is called ‘persistence of vision’.
